Dr. Brianna Joseph

(currently on Maternity leave)

Daughter to both Dr. Michael Joseph and Nurse Judy Joseph, Dr. Brianna Joseph has always had medicine running through her veins. As a teenager, she joined Blacksmiths Family Medical practice as a receptionist for 11 years, developing a connection with many of the loyal patients that still attend the practice.


These days, Dr. Brianna has not only become one of the most reliable and thorough GP's in Blacksmiths, but she has also become a co-owner of the practice, alongside both her father and her mother and has been a doctor for 9 years.


Dr. Brianna Joseph completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2012. Boasting not one, but two degrees (Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine) she has always demonstrated the drive and passion necessary for family medicine.


Dr. Brianna Joseph brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Blacksmiths Family Medical Practice. Completing her specialist General Practice training in 2017 becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.


Her career has allowed her to practice medicine in a variety of rural locations as well as various practices across the Newcastle and the Hunter Region. She shows a keen interest in Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Women’s Health and Sexual Health.


If you are lucky enough, you may also get to meet her beautiful Keeshond dog, Koda Edison Joseph, who sometimes visits the practice.

Dr. Michael Joseph


Dr. Michael Joseph originally founded Blacksmiths Family Medical Practice in March 1981. Having successfully built and run his family-owned practice for 37 years, he has recently welcomed his daughter, Dr. Brianna Joseph as a colleague and co-owner of the business.


Being able to work alongside his family has always been a dream. His passion for his family unit translates to the high quality of care he provides his patients.


Dr. Michael Joseph has worked as a GP for over 37 years. He has always endeavoured to work closely with his patients to assess their overall health while simultaneously building a trustworthy reputation within the Blacksmiths community and Newcastle.


Dr. Michael Joseph enjoys all aspects of General Medicine. Having graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1978, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (with Honours). Dr. Michael Joseph has developed special areas of interest within his field, including Dermatology and Cardiology.


General Practice is not just a profession for Dr. Michael Joseph, but a passion.


Dr. Michael Josephs books are currently closed.


He is currently available Monday, Tuesday mornings, Wednesday, Thursday mornings, Friday and Saturday mornings for existing patients of the practice. Please contact reception to book a time. 


Dr Vimbayinesu Timba

Dr Vim is a passionate, kind  and thorough GP Specialist who is joining Blacksmiths Family Medical Practice to cover Dr Brianna's maternity leave.

She studied the year above Dr Brianna at University of Newcastle, graduating in 2013.

Dr Vim worked the next few years in the Hunter New England Area Health Service, hospitals including John Hunter Hospital, the Maitland Hospital and Tamworth Base Hospital where her and Dr Brianna became close friends.


Dr Vim did further training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, before following her passion into General Practice, completing her specialist General Practice training in 2019 becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Dr Vim has worked locally since and is excited to join our little family practice!


She is happy to treat all aspects of family medicine and has a special interest in women and children's health.

Dr Vim enjoys spending time with her 7 year old daughter and growing vegetables in her very own garden!

Dr Vim Timba's books are closed to new patients.

She is available Monday and Wednesday (9am-1pm, 2pm-5.00pm), Tuesday and Thursday half day 9.30am-1pm– please contact reception to book a time, or book using HotDoc.
